Pop Princess Kylie Minogue Confesses To A Secret Desire

Pop princess and style icon Kylie Minogue has confessed to a secret desire - to "go feral".

Minogue, who is due to release her 10th studio album, X, this month, says if she ever gave up her successful pop career she'd pack her bags and go travelling with friends.

"I would love to have a backpack and just go," she said in a lengthy interview with music magazine Q.

"I'm thinking about it. But I'm a little snowed under right now.

"I need to go feral!

"But what you don't realise is I actually am like that in certain situations.

"We have a holiday farmhouse in Australia, the family, and it's all about gumboots and flies and barbecues and there's one store. I love it."

On a darker note, Minogue said she feared she was going to die after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in May 2005.

"I was upset and I was angry and I was terrified," she said.

"I thought, 'Well, this is quite unbelievable.' I thought, 'Is this really happening?'

"Was I thinking, 'That's it, I'm going to fall off my perch'? Oh yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah."

Despite her fears, Minogue never thought about giving up her pop career.

"I didn't think that," she said. "But I've already had visions about the next tour. Touring is the ultimate for me. Now, doing photo sessions, videos, I'm not as excited.

"My patience has gone down. I think it's about rationing my energy."

Minogue said she had tried to cut down her work hours and was looking forward to moving on to a new phase in her life after she turns 40 next year.

"I'm not scared of turning 40," she said. "I joke about it with my girlfriends and I think it's gonna be quite liberating. And I'm looking forward to the liberation.

"I've always heard through the years, as a woman, 40 is when you really come into your own and I think it's happening."

But Minogue, who is single after her split with French actor Olivier Martinez earlier this year, said she did not think she had sacrificed marriage and family for her career.

"I wouldn't say sacrificed," she said. "I'd say ... I've been devoted.

"But I could have married a boyfriend when I was younger and be doing the school run now and who's to say that would be the more rewarding life for me?

"Now I think about family and it will be in the manner and the time that's right for me."

London-based Minogue also revealed she had taken up horse riding and begun having professional cooking lessons.

And she's even thought about having her own TV cooking show, with a slightly sexy twist.

"I'd love to have a cooking show that's not so much about cooking but just how to look hot in the kitchen," she said.

"Not like (British celebrity chef) Nigella (Lawson), no, because I've mastered nothing. Getting there. With a roast."
